Energy Community Optimization System

We developed software that optimizes electricity flows among multiple entities within an energy community. Using production and consumption forecasts, it saves 5–10% more costs compared to optimizing individual households separately. The savings are then fairly distributed among all community members.

Assignment

Energy communities need a system that helps them better utilize electricity during independent operation. Current approaches work separately, so individual entities do not cooperate, resulting in unnecessary energy overflow into the grid or inefficient consumption for businesses and households.

Our Solution

We developed predictive energy flow management software that:

  • Forecasts production and consumption 24–48 hours ahead using weather data, historical patterns, and consumer behavior,
  • Optimizes the operation of devices such as heat pumps, electric vehicles, air conditioning, and home appliances with delayed start to maximize self-produced energy usage,
  • Allows optimization according to various goals (economic, ecological, self-sufficiency) or their combinations,
  • Uses game theory principles to fairly distribute savings among community members,
  • Includes a scenario simulator that allows testing different setups and impacts based on historical data.

Result

The system can include all entities within a community, efficiently manage controllable consumption, and consider diverse optimization goals. The simulation tool can estimate expected impacts, suggest an optimal community composition, and fine-tune configuration parameters. The result is an additional 5–10% savings compared to managing each member independently.
